A few months ago, Riot Games announced to be working on a new FPS for the competitive scene. When the creator of League of Legends teases a new game, it’s always big news. Originally dubbed “Project A”, we now know that the project is going to be called Valorant. An interesting choice, since Valoran is the name of the continent in League of Legends lore. But enough talk! Let’s take a look at what we know about this brand-new esports title.
A CS:GO with spells?
The first available footage shares many similarities with Valve’s FPS. For example, the game’s core mechanics involve planting or defusing a bomb, depending on which side you’re on. The gameplay itself is also pretty similar to that of CS. Riot confirmed that the game would be a competitive tactical shooter with a relatively low time-to-kill, thus emphasizing team play, accuracy and quick decision making!
Heroes with abilities
The main difference between the two games lies in the set of abilities available to Valorant’s characters. Instead of terrorists vs. counter-terrorists, Valorant features several different characters, each with their own abilities, split into support and Dps roles. Each character comes with 3 unique perks that allow them to make the final difference.
Considering Riot Games’ experience of the competitive scene, we can easily guess that these abilities will be well-balanced and allow for fair competition.
What’s next for Valorant?
Trying to conquer the main FPS gaming scene can look like an impossible challenge, considering the importance and dominance of Counter-Strike. But if ever there is a developer that can tackle this challenge, it’s Riot Games. The game itself appears to be highly optimized, and Riot has already proved capable of providing stable servers and anti-cheat solutions for League of Legends, that are amongst the best in the world.
Things are looking good for Valorant, which is already shaping up to be one of the best games of 2020. What about you? Are you looking forward to playing it?
